It’s Time to Shut Down the Encampments
As I get deeper into my campaign for Metro Council, I am hearing a big concern for residents are the encampments that are forming around the city. I have been to several meetings about it recently and the answers I am hearing aren't encouraging. The timeline to having the one in Hermitage closed seems to be in the 18-month range. Based on my calendar, that's 2025!
Worse than the timeline, there is more discussion about bringing in services than there is about shutting it down. In a recent TV interview, one of the people in it said she wouldn't accept "low income housing" and would continue to live in the encampment instead.
The man in the commercial was building a permanent structure during the making of my campaign ad. The police officers that work this area said they spend about a third of their time working calls from the encampment and in the Northlake Village shopping center.
